Textile Studies for Teachers
August 2012
Earn Professional Development credits in an exciting and relaxing atmosphere taught by Kwantlen’s top Fashion Faculty.
Kwantlen Polytechnic University is pleased to announce its Summer 2011 offering of three - 3 credit courses for teachers offered independently and in conjunction with UBC as part of the Certificate in Textile Studies or the Home Economics Diploma programs. Courses are designed for secondary school teachers of textile studies/fashion who want to strengthen their knowledge in the area, or for teachers or post- secondary students who want to develop expertise for the teaching of textile studies.

8771 Lansdowne, Road, Richmond, BC - Tuition is $550.00 per course.

Textile Studies for Teachers: Re-work Commercial Patterns & Make Them Fit

FSDP 4111 Learn new classroom design techniques in easy to teach manipulation of commercial patterns. Sew up a prototype and experiment with fit for different body types. Take a used garment and recreate it into something new. The course will include excursions to wholesale fabric and notions suppliers. |

Textile Studies for Teachers: Textile Surface Design NEW!

FSDP 4114 In this one week Surface Design session we will be exploring aspects of fabric dyeing and printing, including a side-line into natural dyes on wool and silk. Learn method, means and materials and end the week with a full meter of dyed printed fabric, and a skein of naturally dyed wool - either of which could be combined into an art piece or used as garment elements. Included will be a small manual of practiced techniques, resources and articles for use in teaching your classes. |

Textile Studies for Teachers: Fashion Design with Adobe Creative Suite NEW!
| FSDP 4115 Learn to use a variety of computer programs that can be applied in the high school classroom. Adobe® Creative Suite® will be used to create fashion visuals, design and build layouts and create print materials, and explore advanced techniques in developing fabric prints. Build creative technical skills for teaching costume history, textiles, design, and merchandising. Course work will be compiled into a multi-purpose digital presentation. |
