2012 BC ‘Chinese Bridge’ Mandarin Speech Contest
Kwantlen students, Bjorn Jivung and Mariko Tsuruoka, both from Mand 2201, participated in the Non-Heritage Beginner’s Category which took place at BCIT Downtown Campus on March 17, 2012. Maggie Lam from Mand 1100 participated in the Cantonese Category.
Bjorn beat students from institutions across BC to win first place in the Non-heritage Beginner Category, winning a plaque, cash prize, and a scholarship for studying in China! Mariko also did well, coming fourth in the competition.
Congratulations, Bjorn! Well done, Mariko and Maggie!
Annual Japanese Speech Contest
Kwantlen student, Amy Benson, participated in the 24th Annual British Columbia Japanese Speech Contest on March 3, 2012, winning the first place in the University/Open Beginner's Category. She will go on to participate in the National Japanese Speech Contest at UBC on Saturday, March 31, 2012. Good luck Amy!

The English department is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Advanced Education has given formal approval to Kwantlen's proposal for a B.A. in English.
