Fine Arts
Welcome to Fine Arts. The Kwantlen Fine Arts Department offers a comprehensive program with a strong curriculum focusing on the ideas and techniques of producing contemporary art within a diverse and supportive liberal arts environment. This dynamic program focuses on the integration of studio work with theory and research. Our graduates are prepared with the necessary skills to pursue advanced Fine Arts studies, enter related fields or to pursue a contemporary professional practice.
We offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Visual Arts, a Two Year Degree, and a one year Diploma. The diverse needs of visual art students are met in a vibrant environment with outstanding facilities, studios, exhibition spaces, visiting artists, student exchange programs, and opportunities for liaison with the community.
Our Bachelor of Fine Arts, Visual Arts degree program provides students with a strong studio curriculum focusing on the ideas and technical processes of producing contemporary art. Our graduates are prepared to pursue advanced Fine Arts Studies, to enter related fields or to pursue a contemporary professional practice.
Our Disciplines include Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Print Media, Digital Media, Photography, Art History and Theory, Issues in Contemporary Art, Film Studies, Installation, Performance Art. Students benefit from small class sizes which allow the faculty to provide a high level of individual attention and support.

Key features of our program

- Access to the wider visual arts community through a schedule of visiting artists, of both local and international repute, and through exhibitions of contemporary art at the Kwantlen Art Gallery and the Arbutus Gallery.
- An emphasis on interdisciplinary work, and access to individual studio space for 4th year students.
- An opportunity for students to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in their community, at Kwantlen Polytechnic University which has a long-standing relationships with the arts and culture sector in the South Fraser.

Our Facilities
Our courses take place on two campuses, the core classes are located at the Kwantlen Surrey Campus. The Cloverdale Fine Arts campus houses 4th year classes and exhibition spaces.Surrey Campus: Two drawing and painting studios, a sculpture and 3D studies studio(including wood shop, casting shop, metal shop), a ceramic studio, a photo studio, darkroom, two mac computer labs, a print media studio, and two art galleries.
Cloverdale Campus: 4th Year Individual Student Studios and Exhibition Space – including a Digital Projection Gallery.
An active student community
Fine Arts students have the opportunity to join The Surreyalists Student Collective. This student led group actively organizes exhibitions of work in all media in the university and out in the community. The Surreyalists have held exhibitions at Access Gallery in Vancouver, and at venues in Richmond and Surrey. http://kwantlenartcollective.blogspot.com
Transfer
Students planning to transfer to a different university after their first or second year should check transfer requirements before choosing their electives. See the appropriate university calendar for details. For further information contact a Fine Art faculty advisor. Students are encouraged to take both terms of any given discipline (i.e. both Drawing I and II) to facilitate effective university transfer status.
