Message from the President
In September 2008 Kwantlen assumed a new mandate given by the Government of British Columbia in The University Act, thus becoming, in the words of the Premier, "British Columbia's "Polytechnic University". This mandate has opened a world of very challenging educational opportunities for the University. And these "opportunities" related directly to the University's diverse communities, a range of public and private organizations, professional associations, and a rapidly expanding business and industrial community whose dependence on the services and support of Kwantlen as a public post-secondary institution is growing and diversifying at an accelerating rate.
These changes are the result of the leadership of residents and influential people in the Fraser Valley, private citizens, business leaders, and elected officials at all levels, who have worked tirelessly since the late 1980's promoting the need for a University presence in the Valley. I am proud to have been a small part of this effort and, as a result, am invested significantly in the outcomes of that long term effort. The "outcomes" relate specifically to the successful transformation of Kwantlen from a university college to that of a polytechnic university.
The strategic interests of the University are under the guidance of the Board of Governors that combines a cross section of community expertise and University representation providing a rich combination of perspectives, experiences, and insights into ongoing operations as well as strategic decision-making that affects Kwantlen's long term direction.
I invite you to visit our website and discover Kwantlen Polytechnic University. More important, I invite you to join us in pursuing your post-secondary education so you will be prepared to meet the expectations and demands of our society and the labour market.
Best wishes in all your educational pursuits.
John McKendry
President & Vice Chancellor
